In psychology you learn about Maslow’s Hierarchy Chart of Basic Needs. It’s a fundamental part of the subject. Everybody who has studied Human Services/Social Work knows this. I always found this interesting when I had the chance to learn it. At the time, I had no idea about chakras because they don’t teach you about this type of stuff.
I know there is more to what I have learned about chakras than I will write about. The seven chakras they have here are only the tip of the iceberg as I’ve read we actually have more chakras. But for now I will share the part of what I am learning.
You notice the red chakra, which is located near your feet. This is the base chakra. The base chakra works with security, your home, your family, and your health. It is believed that when you worry or concentrate a lot from this area, you cannot see the forest for the trees, so to speak. We don’t focus on the heart, or the mind. It’s a ‘go quick and get it’ kind of mentality before it’s gone. It rush rush, don’t slow down, don’t focus, don’t exercise, don’t donate, don’t talk to those people! So it’s kind of a ‘me’ spot or an ‘us’ spot. Your thinking is very limited, very small because you are worried something is going to run out and you won’t get anything. Or you won’t get what you need. This area is where people will suffer ailments or issues with anything below the knees. Problems with your knees, your feet, ankles, joints, even toe nails. When you have an excessive amount of problems in these areas it is probably due to your overactive focus on something that has to do with security. It could be your rent/mortgage payments, car payments, or insurance. You are worried and worry does absolutely nothing beneficial for the body. It just creates sickness and ailments. In Maslow’s chart this is the physical needs area.
The second area is the sacral chakra, near the sexual organs. This is the area of money, creativity, relationships, and self control. You can pretty sum up what could go wrong in this area when you overly focus or have a lack of focus in this area.
The yellow chakra is solar plexus area. This is your ego, your self esteem, your self worth, and self direction. It is in the area of the belly, the stomach. It has to do with how you feel about you. When you lack confidence you can actually create problems in this area that can be unsettling or even very serious to your health.
The fourth chakra is the heart chakra. This is love, acceptance, growth, compassion and forgiveness. This area can be open or closed depending on the person. When we begin to do healing work on ourselves, the work we do depends on how much this area is open in order for us to accept what we are learning and to change.
The fifth chakra is the throat chakra. It deals with speech, communication and your will power. How well to do you speak to people, do you have trouble speaking in groups? Are you expressive in relationships? Can you articulate what you mean to others? Do you follow what you say you are going to do? This area can hinder our self esteem if we do not fix it. And a bad self esteem can lead to many things.
The sixth chakra is the brow area. This is where truth lies. Self discovery. Mental and emotional well being. This is where you come to when have optimal health. It is how you think, how you react/behave/respond. It is the leading up to place to want to be. To wake up and feel good, to go about your day and still feel good, and to go to bed and feel fabulous about life.
The seventh chakra is the crown chakra. It has courage, wisdom, spirit, faith and inspiration. It’s doubt free. It doesn’t live in fear. It’s understanding and acceptance of all that is. It’s no judgements and a sense of freedom.
So, our health and well being relies on us to work in these areas of our lives so that we can reach the top. It has nothing to do with being ‘better’ than another person. This is not a competition. This is life. Our bodies are our temples. We must treat them right. We are the preventers of disease, if we want. We are also the creators of disease, should we not pay attention to what our bodies need. It’s all up to us in the end.
I’ve had fun learning about the chakras, I don’t know it all by any means, I’m only sharing an interpretation of what I have learned for myself. You may pick it up and learn something different, that is fine. But I have used my learning to help myself and keep myself healthy in my own way.
I hope you’ve enjoyed my blog today!
